The Aboriginal Garden

The Aboriginal Garden is an area set aside for plants that were important to the life of Koories of southeastern Australia. The Garden is beside the lake at the northeast corner of the Clayton campus. It has over 150 species of plants. Indigenous people used these plants for food, medicine, tools, fibres and glue. We have labelled each plant with its Indigenous name, English common name, botanical name, and the uses for the plant.

The garden preserves the long-standing knowledge held by the Koori people. We hope to encourage more people to experience a connection with the land, which has been so important to the Koori people.

You can guide yourself through the garden using a pamphlet that you can download or pick up from the nearby Science Centre.
