Our education philosophy

What is the Monash Passport?

The Monash Passport is our approach to education. Our curriculum model.

It's an approach that lets students start their careers the moment they enter the University, and depart with the knowledge, skills and desire to make a positive impact on the world.

Our students are smart when they arrive. That's why we push them to do interesting things straight away. We give them skills and options to help them move forward faster.

We focus on research.
We work with partners – businesses, government and NGOs – looking for a competitive edge in an increasingly crowded market.

What we learn feeds back into our curriculum, so our courses are shaped by current, relevant knowledge. Our students gain problem solving skills, communication skills, e-learning skills and research skills.

We have an international presence and global outlook
We are the only Australian university active on four continents. We benchmark all our degrees globally, so they meet both local and international accreditation standards.

Thanks to the Passport, students can widen their options – through an innovative suite of double degrees or a range of social and professional engagements – or deepen their experience and develop more specialised abilities. When our students study leadership, they lead by example.

We provide a unique global learning experience
Cultural experiences should be lived, so we immerse our students in diverse cultural environments as part of their program. At Monash, the world becomes their campus.

What it means for students
Through our industry, government and NGO partners, students can develop their skills through volunteering, internships and research programs. They experience a truly international education. They choose when they are ready to specialise. They can immerse themselves in research during the early years of their degree. They are encouraged to lead and learn to make a difference to the world.

These experiences help them apply what they've learned to their life, and to develop the confidence and employment skills they'll need once they graduate.

So they emerge from university ready, and able, to take part in their world.

What it means for businesses, government and NGOs
Our graduates give you a competitive edge.

We inspire, challenge and stretch our students. We educate them to a global standard, with the knowledge and skills organisations need to stay competitive. They are ready for you on day one.

How to get involved
There are many ways to partner with us so we can continue to develop the opportunities offered to our students through the Monash Passport. And it is not a one-way street. Our partners benefit from working with leading Monash scholars and, of course, our talented students.

1. Become a volunteering partner
Our partners have access to enthusiastic students through volunteering missions, internships, peer-assisted learning programs and industry-based learning programs.

2. Help us develop our international networks
We look for partners who can give students international experience, by exposing them to different languages and cultures, different environments and different perspectives.

3. Offer internships and industry placements
Would you like to work with us to develop industry-based learning programs? You benefit from having some of the country's brightest minds work in your organisation and our students benefit from hands-on practical learning.

4. You can benefit from research projects
Some of our best students, working under senior academics, focus on finding solutions to our partners' specific challenges. Partnering with Monash on research projects can include developing joint programs and opportunities, from music to marketing to metallurgy.

5. Help teach our students to lead
Some of the world's most effective leadership programs involve industry 'shadowing' and mentoring by professionals and alumni. We welcome your involvement as role models for our talented students.

Can you help us make a difference?
We are constantly looking for ways to broaden and deepen our students' learning experience. If you want to know more about the Monash Passport and its partnership opportunities, please contact the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) on +61 3 9902 9853.
